Newday 2012

Newday 2012 LIVE

It’s that time again, NEWDAY 2012 LIVE has started dropping through letterboxes all across the world. I’ve just got my hands on a copy so thought I’d post my first thoughts.

As soon as I saw it on my desk, I got seriously excited. Before even taking my coat off, I got out my laptop and put it on. What an amazing week newday 2012 was. In my opinion, the best one yet for so many reasons, not least the music.

Diversity, excitement and truth rolled in to one album means that it appeals to all. The thing I loved about newday this year was that the worship didn’t stick between the musical lines. Simon Brading, Jules Burt, Jordan Dillon and Sam Cox pushed the limits of worship to it’s edge. Not content with sticking to the standard arrangements, they brought a new style to worship as we know it.

Cornerstone, what an amazing song and also, what an incredible voice Sam Cox has. This song just came on and a few people around said, ‘I love that song!’ and so do I. Compare that to the pumping feel of There Is Dancing and you can already see the diversity of this album but there is one underlining theme, great truth. You could sit and read the lyrics to these songs and get as much out of it as you would with the dubstep beats and guitar solos accompanying them.

One of the best things about this album is that it captures the live experience perfectly, hearing a few woop woops from the congregation mixed with the clapping helps you remember just what it was like in that tent. Stick your headphones and you could almost believe you were back there again. This is so important with a live album general, even more so with an event like newday.

A big thing we push in Brighton is that newday isn’t a yearly fix for your walk with God but it’s a time to get prepared for the coming year. Each year we love looking back and seeing the amazing things God has done in our young people’s lives between each newday. Having this live album helps you remember what happened that week and helps to keep focus on the things God has for you. It’s not the only way but it’s certainly one of them. If you’re wanting an album that’s solid, exciting and will grow a passion for worship in you, this is perfect!

You can get it on iTunes or from Freedom Sounds.
